Pelican Pool & Patio / Green pool cleanup

Orange Park · Fleming Island · Middleburg · Oakleaf

Your pool went green. It is fixable.

Almost always without draining it, usually in three to seven days, for a price we can tell you over the phone. Most green pools in Clay County are a fortnight of neglect and a week of rain, not a disaster.

How bad is it, honestly

Find the one that looks like yours. This is the first thing we ask, because it decides the price and the timeline more than pool size does.

Cloudy but not green pool water

Green pool water
GreenBottom is faint or gone. The common one. Three to five days of treatment and filtering.
Dark green, almost black pool water
Dark, almost blackCannot see the steps. Still recoverable, but expect a week and a filter clean or two.

The thing most people get told wrong

You almost never need to drain a green pool.

Draining a pool in Florida risks the shell lifting out of wet ground, cracks the plaster as it dries in the sun, and costs you thousands of gallons. It is occasionally the right answer and usually the lazy one. We will tell you honestly which yours is before you spend anything.

What we do, and how long it takes

Day one

Test, net and brush

Full water test first, because dumping chlorine into unbalanced water mostly wastes the chlorine. Debris out, walls and floor brushed to break the algae off the surfaces it is clinging to.

Day one

Shock and treat

Chemicals matched to what the test showed and how far gone it is. Filter runs continuously from here, which is the part that actually clears the water.

Days two to five

Filter, clean, repeat

We come back, re-test, re-treat and clean the filter. A filter choked with dead algae stops working, and this is where most do-it-yourself attempts stall.

Finish

Vacuum and balance

Dead algae vacuumed off the floor, water balanced properly, equipment checked. Then it is yours again.

Questions we get asked

How much does a green pool cleanup cost?

It depends on how far gone it is and the size of the pool, but we can give you a number on the phone if you describe it using the three states above. It is a fixed price, not an open-ended hourly job.

Do you have to drain it?

Rarely. Draining in Florida carries real risk to the shell and the plaster. We only recommend it when the water chemistry genuinely cannot be recovered, and we will explain why before you agree to anything.

How long until we can swim?

Three to five days for a typical green pool, up to a week or more if it is dark and the filter needs repeated cleaning. Anyone promising same-day on a properly green pool is selling you something.

Will it just go green again?

Only if nothing changes. Most green pools are a pump, a filter or a routine problem rather than bad luck. We tell you which, and weekly service exists so it does not happen twice.

Can I do it myself?

Plenty of people do. The two things that catch them out are not brushing properly and not cleaning the filter as it clogs. If you have already spent two weekends and a lot of chlorine on it, call us.

After it is clear

Tell us how green it is.

Describe it, or send a photo. We will give you a price and a realistic day you can swim.
